Just a single tear
Just once
And it's over
She had been a fool
such a fool
to easily give in
to those sweet, short,
beguiling moments
She knew he would be there
as everyone is
She walked around
her feet is sore
her mind oblivious to it
her eyes scanned through
hundreds of unfamiliar faces
helplessly hoping
to catch a glimpse of him
She had missed him so bad
he had no idea
an hour passed...
two hours...
three hours...
she sat down and sighed
her knees weak
her feet numbed
her spirit low
she said a silent prayer
something made her look to her right
her eyes now fixed on the escalator
her heart began pounding
so loud, she could almost hear it
Among the crowd was a very familiar face
How could she not recognize
That gentle face who stole a few good hours of her sleep
That adorable man who often wandered through her dreams
And oh, that lazy smile he has, almost unnoticeable
So pecualiar, yet so enchanting
She recalled how often she had melted in his steady gaze
Whenever his eyes meet hers
From those little talks they've had
She had often wondered how it would feel
To be kissed by him,
To have his arms around her
He is a towering figure in his dark brown jacket
He looked magnificent
She had always admired the way he walks,
His long, powerful strides
He went off the escalator
Then her heart sank
She was not prepared for what she'd see
He is with a girl!
She's a little short
She's pretty
Her long, black hair tied in a ponytail
She's wearing a shirt and white shorts
Her skin is fair
From a distance, she looks just like the girl in the photos
Yes, she does.
All along, she thought the girl had been away
and not coming back.
She could feel her face turning red
She wished she knew better
The girl had not been away after all
And she had been so foolish to believe otherwise
So foolish to think that she stood a chance
So foolish to believe that someone like him
Would want to be with someone like her
She felt a dozen daggers piercing through her heart
She could hardly breathe
Then, it all dawned to her
She is just caught up in his game
Nothing but a consummate prey
Caught up in a spider's web
And to add to her anguish,
She had been a willing, clueless prey
To his silent mockery
She hated herself
And her gullible, weak little heart
Her naivete, once again,
Had failed her to see things
The way they really are
She turned away
And promised never to look back
She wanted to run
Yet her long dress keeps her
even from walking fast
Her good friend, who kept her company, smiled at her
Yet she couldn't smile back
She could feel her eyes getting misty
She could feel her tears at the corner of her eyes,
about to fall
She looked up and held it back
She sought the comfort of her once peaceful abode
Yet all she could feel was loneliness
She felt so humiliated
She could only imagine
How pathetic she must have been to him
She even showed him her stupid sketches
on a scratch paper
How disgusting that must have been
He must have had a good laugh at it
She even told him how he made her feel
When they first met
How stupid of her to bare her heart so easily
And much to her chagrin, she just realized
She is madly in love with him
How it happened and why
Is something she could not quite comprehend
Her heart, once again, had betrayed her
She could not stop thinking about him
She could memorize his face, his elusive smile, his voice
She didn't see this coming
She had always thought these things were impossible
She should have known better
She should have...
She buried her face under her pillow
And let her silent tears pour down like rain
Allowed herself to wallow in self-pity and desolation
She's crying over a man who doesn't have the slightest idea
Of how he had made her feel
She once told him, she is beginning to really like him
That if he were setting a trap,
Then she is falling right into it
He told her not to fall!
Yes, he warned her
Yet she was as stubborn as a pig
She indulged her stupid whim
She should have listened to him
She shed tears
NOT just a single tear
NOT just once
But tomorrow
maybe
just maybe
She would smile again...
And it will be over...
For as swiftly as it came, so will it vanish...she hoped...
